The past week and a bit have been productive: got the muffler replaced at a shop, replaced the front discs and pads & rear shoes and drums (what a rusty and educational venture that was), found two brand new front tires at a local shop today for $53 a piece (Michelin Hydroedge). Also cleaned all of the interior panels, since they had years of dust and grim accumulating on them.
Last things on the list to get er safetied: rear brake lines and defog the headlights. Then a full exterior detail and time to put some kilometres on it!

Are your brake lines bad...or are they just old? I bought an old BMW and am going through much the same with replacing brakes and tires. Maybe new lines are in order.

The ones that run front to rear are rusted; not quite perforated but they need to be replaced to pass safety.
